Spray Alert

An online community for eradicating bogus bug eradication programs.

We are going up against agencies like the CDFA that are well funded with our tax dollars. They have already tried to give the spin doctors of Porter Novelli close to a half million dollar down payment to make all of us look like a bunch of whining hypochondriacs that are spreading disinformation about the sky falling. (Thanks to our complaints though, it sounds like they will have to shop around now instead of doing this no-bid contract.)

We need to collectively polish up our messages and work on our bumper sticker slogans. Please make suggestions and debate here (as politely but passionately as you can).

I've heard some great comments and concerns from people already about the name of this people network, our tagline, and some of the slogans and elevator pitches we use. It has been suggested that we NOT use the word "not" or "no" as it still brings up the image, and that could lead to self-fulfilling prophesy. Saying "no war" for example still causes us to think of war, when we could simply be visualizing peace. How do we describe a pesticide-free world where our governments invest in our education and infrastructure instead of one that funds an eradication program that is toxic to our health? How can we spin the spin back to something positive while still warning the public of what could happen if we do nothing?

IMO it may be time to take our focus off "stopping the spray." As far
as warning the public, I feel that by this time, there's more than enough info circulating on this topic for anyone who is interested. Pushing too hard with this issue can be counterproductive, I feel.
What is the vibe, the energy, that we are putting out? That's the deciding factor according to the Law of Attraction. And if we're in a vibration of anxiety, worry, desperation, it's time to change direction.

It's hard to come up with a name, tagline, and slogan on this spraying issue without somehow reinforcing the likelihood of it coming to pass, since as you yourself say, Kevin, we're still focusing on what we don't want.

I could suggest something like:

Ecologically Friendly Living
Empowering Personal and Planetary Health

But that's too general, isn't it?

It's not that I think writing letters, passing out flyers, and taking part in
events focused on this issue are a waste of time. I sent out a number of
letters, myself. I just feel like now that we've made our voices heard, and done pretty much all we can on that level, to the point where we are being ridiculed as Chicken Littles, it may be more productive
to work from within ourselves, holding a powerful vision of what we want,
rather than what we don't want!

Some of you may be familiar with the idea that there's a New Age dawning, an age of awareness that transcends materialism and in which we will
become more oriented to the inner than to the outer reality. The forces of materialism, for example those who are pushing the spraying, know this, and they are running scared! They say we are scared, but they are more so, because on some level even if not conscious, they know that this shift is unstoppable,
and their days are numbered. That's why their tactics are becoming more
and more outrageous.

"If there is no vision, the people perish." This is because in the absence of vision, we are subject to the agenda of others, who may not have our best interests at heart. But to paraphrase another oldie/goodie slogan, there is nothing more powerful than a vision whose time has come.

You said we could simply be visualizing peace, Kevin. Yes, and we could hold the vision of a safe, clean, ecologically friendly world where we are motivated by love rather than fear.

That world already exists in seed form, and will grow as we attune to it,
as we live Gandhi's dictum to "be the change you want to see in the world." We don't need to fight the old energies that are hanging on for dear
life. Our focus needs to be on the new.

OK, rant over. :-)

Thanks for the great comments, Jen. I like the suggestions and started to change my chip accordingly. I started this network to help the group Stop The Spray San Francisco, and to encourage info sharing and networking between the various LBAM groups, which are focused on keeping us healthy and free of those airplanes flying over with the stuff that starts with the letter "p". In the longer term though, I'd like to simply make the planet a better place for us all to live and ensure our offspring live even better lives than us.

Regarding positive visualization vs. obstacle obsession, I learned while river rafting that if you focus on avoiding the rocks, you essentially focus on the rocks and lo and behold, run into them. If you focus instead on the whitewater in between them, you can have a lot more fun, and not run into as many rocks. Nevertheless, the visualization does require some paddling. The important point is that we paddle downstream instead of upstream, and focus on the water, not the rocks...

Kevin, I too am all for making the world a better place for us, our children and for generations to come.

Gandhi's "Be the change you want to see in the world" resonates with me. In line with this, there's also Krishnamurti's saying, "You are the world." What it comes down to is that the world is our projection.

I loved your analogy with river rafting--going downstream, focusing
on the water, not the rocks. When we are going downstream, we
are going with rather than against the flow. As you say, we still have
to paddle, but it's a lot easier than struggling upstream. When we are trying to control or change others, that's upstream. When we
simply focus on and take responsibility for our own state of being,
we're gliding downstream.

When I sent out my letter to the Governor, the City Attorney,
Senator Feinstein et al, it was very short. I said I requested the
cancellation of all spraying plans since there was no evidence
that the light brown apple moth truly was a threat to agriculture,
but plenty of evidence that it was harmful to humans and other
living things. I signed the letter "Thank you" as if my request had already been answered.

I got responses from all of them, expressing varying degrees of
understanding and opennness, but in a way it didn't matter how they reacted. I was actually writing my request to the universe disguised as the Governor etc. Since the universe always grants our wish when we are of the right vibration, I know I can rest easy on my downstream course.

Water is symbolic of spirit. In focusing on the water instead of the rocks, we align with the guidance of our inner being, and have faith
that we will get to the end of our journey safe and sound as well as exhilarated.

One more thing, I think the title of your first post, "Who's afraid of the big bad moth?", is very clever, and it occurred to me that
it could be either our name, tagline, or pitch! Humor and satire is a great way to defuse anxiety and get perspective.

People could also sing it at events... :-)

I like it... I'm trying it out now. I also changed the description box, so it leaves room for us to grow after the moth eradication program is completely eradicated:

A community that believes our health is our wealth. Currently focused on halting plans to eradicate a harmless moth.

Waddya think of that?

How about "Currently celebrating our progress in
keeping the Bay Area free of chemical approaches to eradicate the harmless light brown apple moth"?

Our health is our wealth--definitely.

I like this quote, don't know if you can use it on the site,
but think it is worth sharing:

"Awaken, dear friends, within this dream and realize it is your duty and responsibiity as human beings, based on what you now know, to imagine and visualize a safe world. It will be as you decree, and your own experience will thus reflect it."

--EARTH, Pleiadian Keys To The Living Library, p. 249

Imagining does create reality. So, let's keep holding that vision!
