CDFA chief A.G. Kawamura is coming to see us in San Francisco! In case you haven't heard about it yet, below is a letter from Stop the Spray Marin with all the details. I regret I can't make it but hope you can get down there and have a heart-to-heart discussion with him.
----
Come participate in a Street Meet-Up to stop the ongoing pesticide-based program for Light Brown Apple Moth (LBAM). It is happening at the Slow Food Nation Conference in San Francisco this Friday!
Meet on Friday, August 29, at 10 A.M.
outside Herbst Auditorium
401 Van Ness at McAllister
A.G. Kawamura, head of CDFA (California Department of Food and Agriculture, the agency conducting the eradication campaign) will be speaking at the Slow Food Nation conference in San Francisco on August 29, 11:00 am at Herbst Auditorium. He needs to know that the LBAM eradication program has to stop.
Join in this group effort to reach out to the Slow Food community and inform gathering locavores about the unsafe, ineffective, and unnecessary LBAM eradication program. Hand out free apples and lavender from Santa Cruz County. These locally-grown crops flourish in the moth's favorite California habitat. The LBAM is NOT a moth of mass destruction.
Please do bring your kids and pets!
Why are We Having a Meet-Up?
The eradication program for the Light Brown Apple Moth (LBAM)is NOT over --- in fact its scope has been extended to 56 of California's 58 counties. Aerial spraying may be off the table for cities, but it is still in the offing for rural (how defined?) areas. Toxic ground treatments for residential areas in cities and towns are still being planned, treatments which are particularly dangerous to bees and cats. These ground treatments are also harmful to birds, wildlife, pets, and people.
