Here are some great suggestions in an email I received from the Mothers of Marin Against the Spray (MOMAS). They are focused on Marin, but doing great work to educate and help eradicate this moth eradication program.
1. Call or Write Tom Vilsack, U.S. Sec. of Agriculture
Secretary Vilsack has
the power to reclassify the moth from an actionable
pest to a non-actionable pest. The
National Academies determined that the
classification decision was not made based upon
sound science.
· Ask him to reclassify the light brown apple moth from an actionable pest
to a non-actionable pest, stop burdensome quarantines on our farmers, and
end the moth eradication program.
· Tell him to use our scarce tax dollars for programs that are based upon
sound science.
· Ask him to keep our families safe from toxic chemicals.
2. Call, Write or Fax Speaker Pelosi, Representative Woolsey,
Senator Leno and Assembly Member Huffman and ask them to:
· Tell the USDA to reclassify the light brown apple moth.
· Keep toxic chemicals away from our neighborhoods and children.
· Do whatever it takes to end the eradication program. Tell them that
decisions about pest control must be made based upon sound science.
3. Volunteer for MOMAS
We need you! Go to momasunite.org and fill out our volunteer application.
4. Donate to MOMAS
Any amount makes a difference! Your support allows us to continue our work. All of MOMAS' work directly impacts the health of all children in our community. Make checks payable to Pesticide Watch Education Fund (write MOMAS in the memo line), and mail to: 1107 9th Street, Suite 601, Sacramento, CA 95814. All proceeds go directly to MOMAS.
5. Forward this email to 5 friends
Ask them to join MOMAS' mailing list by sending an email to mothersofmarin@yahoo.com, and to make at least one phone call or write a letter today. This pesticide program will come to our neighborhoods if we don't take action to stop them. We cannot do it without your help.
